EFPT La Franqui

2010

PWA Fuerteventura
PWA Lanzarote
PWA Podersdorf
EFPT La Franqui

The event took place during the Mondial du vent at la Franqui the last 3 days of the week. The wind predictions where really looking bad with only a max 9-10 knts on Sunday and the wind direction from SE which is Marin and almost onshore. The first day of the event was really nothing so there didn’t happen much. The second day we made a supersession where we were pulled in by a boat to get a good speed to do a move. It was really hard as it was quite shoppy but I managed to do a good flaka OH and almost a shaka in my 3 runs. In the evening everybody could see that further out there was already wind from the south but that it was blocked by the mountain at la Franqui. The next day in the morning there was not so much wind yet but in the deep it looked like it was already windy but again from the south and blocked by the mountain. The wind predictions said it would turn SSE and kick in to 19 knts around 2-3 a clock and so said so happened. Already around 12 the wind started to pick up and everyone started to go on to the water but the wind was still very gusty and not really that perfect to start a competition. But it was the only bit of wind there was and the last day so we started around 1 O’clock with the first heats. I was already in the second round because of my result at Naxos last year. After a small hour it was my heat against Adrien Bosson a Frenchman who lives at le Brusc and whom I know since 2 years now. I know he’s a really good sailor so I just did the best I could and came out of the heat as the winner. The next heat would be one of the most toughest one’s. In the quarter final I had to go against Davy Scheffers from the Netherlands from whom I knew his level was one of the highest from all the riders in the EFPT after his 4 months of training on Bonaire this winter. I just knew I had to go for as much moves as possible and no or as less as possible crashes. The wind kicked in that heat really good and I was really powered up with my 4.7 . My first move started with the crash because I went higher than I wanted with my shaka on my bad side and was running already one move behind. Afterwards everything went perfect I really did a lot of moves and almost didn’t crash anymore. I did moves like shaka both ways, planning flakas both ways, lots of ss moves coming in (because going out was really shoppy) and did a clean ss kono. I saw that Davy was crashing much more than me and I had a good feeling when I came out of the water. When they said I won that heat I was really happy to already be in the top 4 for sure. My next opponent was Nicolas Spadea who was sailing really consistent and also was doing a lot of moves. I did my heat by starting really good up wind and landed again a lot of moves with not so many crashes. The next heat was the winners finale against Steven Van Broeckhoven who was European champion last year. I just went out to have fun and see what would happen. I sailed a pretty good heat but not my best one the wind was strong and became also more gusty than before because it was turning more south again. I came out of the heat and knew Steven had won and I was second. I was really happy with this result in the single. They still started the double almost right after the single but the wind dropped after an hour so they couldn’t finish it anymore. At half past 6 it was the price giving and I got my trophy for my second place!! Also there was this event a trophy given to the first and second place from the youth which was under 17 to give more attention to the young and upcoming freestylers that there are all over the world which was a really a nice and good initiative. The first price was for Jeremy who finished 13th on his first EFPT and the second place was for Yentel Caers who was 17th on also his first EFPT event.
Hope to be in Leucate again next year at the Mondial du Vent!!
Next one up is Podersdorf my first PWA event!
