The competition was spread over 2 weekends. The weekend of 12-13 September and the weekend of 19-20 September.
Thursday evening prior to the first weekend they announced that the competition was a go, although the wind predictions looked only minimal for planning conditions. But to my great surprise there was a modest NO wind which was more than enough for freestyle. The wind was side-onshore with waves of 1 meter which made it difficult for sliding moves going out. The heats went smoothly and I managed to win with moves like shakas both sides, ss chachos, punetas, forwards etc. The sailed a single and double that day which I won both times before Hylke Bakker.
Sunday the wind was funny with pal onshore conditions from the North. When the rain came so came the wind so that we had more than enough wind in the heats. Hylke and I made it to the finals again in difficult conditions with waves of 1.5 and 2 meters and every unsteady wind. During the final the wind picked up again and we were both overpowered. Luckily it dropped a bit during the heat so we could both show our best tricks. I landed 2 nice shakas both sides and also a nice ss kono, double puneta and very radical funnel. We could not do a double that day as is was already too late for this.
The 2nd weekend there was not enough wind for freestyle and so we could relax on the beach and enjoy a nice weekend in a good atmosphere. Sunday there was a nice price giving organized by the club. I also received a ticket for the Crowning III which will be held in the spring somewhere. This was the last weekend of the BK freestyle and I earned for the first time the title of Belgian Champion in the Open Category.
