A week after getting back from Sardinia we left for Greece for 4 weeks of which we would stay 3 weeks on the island of Paros. The wind predictions were looking great! After spending 26 hours in total on the boat we finally arrived at Paros. The first thing we needed to get used to were the hot temperatures. The first week we were on the east side of the island because the wind predictions were moderate. We spent one day at Santa Maria with ENE wind before the wind turned north again (Meltemi). The rest of the week we spent at New Golden Beach. The water was very choppy and the wind unsteady but still ok. The first day with no wind we drove around to get to know the island and visited the village of Lefkes and checked out the kitespot of Pounda. After a day with no wind and much too high temperatures (42-43°) the Meltemi came back. In the afternoon at Golden Beach the wind became so strong that I could no longer handle my S1 3.7. We decided to drive to Pounda where the wind is always a little less. When I arrived I immediately understood why my Swiss friends preferred this spot. The water was flat (especially at the front, but not so deep) and the wind was much more constant. After a good surf session we drove back to the campsite to pack and move to Pounda where we would stay for the rest of the vacation. George, the owner of the kiteclub was so kind to offer us a place to stay (for which we are very grateful) so we could stay right at the spot. The next two weeks the Meltemi was very strong and only let us down on two days of which we could not surf. Every day I had to take my smaller sail in the afternoon. After a few nice evenings at Antiparos (the neighbor island for which you could get to for 1€ on the ferry) our vacation came to an end and we had to leave the very windy island of Paros. A vacation of which I sailed 18 out of 21 days was a huge success. It was so great that when George offered me a summer job in the windsurf centre I didn’t hesitate to accept and when I got home packed up again to go back to Paros.
